Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
We provide youth with opportunities to learn and explore the art and education of film and media in an atmosphere centered in respect and acceptance.
Equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) is an integral part of the JRH Foundations’ mission and values. We recognize, accept without judgement and welcome the diverse backgrounds, lives and experiences of all our stakeholders. We believe that by connecting individuals together in a safe environment where all individuals feel respected and valued, we are allowing for personal growth that celebrates the creative spirt and which in turn creates positive change. The motivation behind our approach is to provide all individuals regardless of race, color, religion, sex, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, the ability to use their voice as agents of change.
The James R. Halsey Foundation of the Arts, in partnership with the community, enriches the quality of life for youth (ages 14 to 20) by providing a safe and educational environment where participants are inspired and encouraged toward a better future. This initiative is accomplished by fostering an interest in the creative process - while guiding participants/students through that process as it relates to the art of filmmaking, and by providing life-skills training that promotes success in business and the arts.
We believe that art -- specifically filmmaking is therapeutic and provides a common language that gives us the opportunity to expand our minds; bridging the gap between generations and breaking down socioeconomic barriers.
A 501c3 nonprofit organization, the James R. Halsey Foundation of the Arts provides an alternative to sports programs for youth who wish to pursue a creative outlet. We have created a safe community of support and encouragement in the midst of a stimulating course curriculum.
"Don't underestimate the power of the arts and creativity for their healing power and ability to change lives."
- Joseph A. Halsey, Founder, James R. Halsey Foundation of the Arts
